Beyh Royale is a time honoured beverage served as a 'welcome-drink' to guests at the court of the Johore Royalty (of the commonwealth state of Johore in Malaysia) during the reign of HRH Sultan Sir Abu Bakar Ibni Al-Marhum Temenggong Daeng Ibrahim, Sri Maharaja of Johore (1833 - 1895).
Its original recipe came from the late HRH Sultanah Khatijah, consort to HRH Sultan Sir Abu Bakar. It later came to be in the posession of her sister Datin Roquaiya Hanim and later to Datin Salamah Ambak, whom were both the wives of Johore's first Chief Minister. The brew was later then awarded by Datin Salamah to Madam Hajjah Rahmah and subsequently to her daughter Madam Khurshiah who further refined it.
Beyh Royale is patiently brewed using the various richly aromatic spices that could be found in abundance throughout the State of Johore, then a centre of spice cultivation in Malaysia.
Made with sweet scented cinnamon, pungent cardamon, spicy cloves and star anise, citrusy kaffir lime and tropical pandan leaves, this once-lost treasure has been rediscovered and is now made available for your drinking pleasure.
